Excerpts from "Awakening".

I have begun an ambitious multi-media project centered around a sci-fi horror novel entitled "Awakening". The completed project will include a dark ambient soundtrack, with one track per chapter, each intended to be played on repeat while reading. It will also include a 2 track demo from the fictional band "Excavation", a death metal group (SF Bay area, early 90's) in which the main character's grandfather played drums. The timeline for this project is pretty much open-ended at this point, since this is a huge undertaking, but I will posting updates here as progress is made. For now I give you an early draft of the opening scene:

"JESUS CHRIST DUDE! CALM DOWN!" she screamed, a James continued his descent toward the massive fissure in the earth below, practically bouncing off the walls on his way down. "Please don't go down there, at least not without your head-lamp..."

"Aw, come on! Don't be so paranoid, I know what I'm doing." he says.

"Please just take the light, you remember what happened the last time you forgot? It's always that fucking awful screeching, you know they hate it when they can't see you."

At that moment, words escape from her mouth, but somehow the fog became like a wall. The sound barely makes it to his ears. Without warning, the fog shifts from a pristine white, into the most impenetrable black she had ever seen. More than simply an absence of color, this was the complete absence of EVERYTHING. At the moment Christine expects a deafening screech, she is confronted  with nothing. Absolutely nothing. Complete and utter silence.

"And then I wake up. It's been this way for 17 days now. I have this dream, always the same dream. Always the same cold sweat...and it always happens at the same time. 3:19 am. Right on the dot."

Christine lets out a desperate sigh and slumps into the couch, her mind and body exhausted by night after night of the same horrors.
